Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment

Over the past 10 years OHMS has aggressively pursue Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) in order to correct the injustices of the past. We have rigorously pursued a socio-economic development strategy in order to make a positive contribution towards the training, development and integration of previously disadvantaged individuals into business and employment opportunities.

  1. Since 2008, OHMS has been a regular donor of food and stationary to Blyvooruitzight Primary School. Mine funding to this school was discontinued when Blyvooruitzight GM was liquidated. This school, with 780 pupils of whom 730 are black pupils (mainly from the neighbouring Wedela settlement), was in dire need for food, stationary and equipment.
  2. In 2011 OHMS became involved in subsidizing of a rural school (Vyfhoek Primary), just north of Potchefstroom. We have sponsored a refurbishment of classrooms and for the past six years OHMS has continuously sponsored all reparations and upgrades at this school.
  3. Over the past ten years OHMS has trained and developed more then
    • 60 (sixty) black seismic processors
    • 19 (nineteen) black seismic technicians
    • 15 (fifteen) black strata control officers
    • 2 (two) black Rock Engineers
  4. OHMS is currently a full sponsor of a previously disadvantaged employee who has enrolled at the University of North West (Potchefstroom campus). This promising candidate is currently enrolled for a B.Com degree.
  5. During 2015 OHMS became involve with Thari Ya Thuto, who obtained a 12% shareholding in OHMS. Thari Ya Thuto is a not-for-profit company who has the mandate and sole purpose of sponsoring the education of impoverished, previously disadvantaged girls. Thari Ya Thuto uses the financial benefit gained through its shareholding in OHMS to sponsor these girls. It is envisaged that a sum of R100 000 will be invested in upliftment during the 2016 financial year. As part of our commitment to Enterprise Development OHMS will provide administrative- and bookkeeping services to Thari Ya Thuto at no cost.
  6. For the past three years OHMS contributed and participated in the BEESA socio-economic development fund.
